Safrul Muluk is a professor at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Safrul earned his first Master’s degree at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in 2000, majoring in Islamic Studies. He earned his second Master’s degree at Flinders University, South Australia in Education Management in 2004, and completed his doctoral studies in 2013 at the same University, Flinders University in Adelaide majoring in Higher Education Management.
Apart from teaching, Safrul was also involved in the development sector during the tsunami recovery and rehabilitation efforts in Aceh from 2005 to 2009. He was appointed as the program manager of the USAID project, overseeing human resources and program support. Other international agencies that employ him are UNICEF, JICA Japan, ILO, and Save the Children. As a researcher, he has published a number of articles, including “School Culture Transformation Post Islamic Law Implementation in Aceh,” “Part-Time Job and Students’ Academic Achievement,” “Developing Generic Skills at an Islamic Higher Education Institution Curriculum In Aceh, Indonesia ,” “How Do Students Become Self-Directed Learners in the EFL Flipped-Class Pedagogy? A Study in Higher Education,” and “Higher Education Transformation: To What Direction? (A Look at the Transformation of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University).”
